Tangletown Residence

Seattle, WA

Located in a dense and established residential neighborhood in Seattle, the first step in the design process explored identifying creative options for integrating this busy family’s new home into the neighborhood. Facing the streetscape, native pollinator plant species engage the corner lot and establish a welcoming entry experience for people and insects. The clean lines of a cedar fence and architectural concrete walls establish a sense of privacy and screening from nearby neighbors while addressing site grading.

Outdoor rooms, a desired amenity of the family, abound in the backyard, seamlessly integrating the interior and exterior of this bright and modern home. Outdoor amenities include a second story deck and a ground level outdoor living room that opens to a spacious lawn for the children. A raingarden featuring an Ipe boardwalk surrounded by sedges and ferns infiltrates stormwater on the north side of the home.
