Olmsted Parks Study

Seattle, WA

The Seattle Olmsted Parks Study links historical review to tangible rehabilitation strategies for ten essential Olmsted landscapes in Seattle and creates a nexus of information on Seattle parks, a potential model for urban park rehabilitation at large. Rehabilitation honors historic character while addressing emerging needs for use. Each site was thoroughly researched for historic information from surveys and management reports to early photographs and iconic postcards. The report grappled with technical, social, and ecological issues including restoration of native woodland, stabilization of waterside bluffs, contested view corridors, and landscape maintenance.
