Summer Internship
We are excited to announce the launch of our 2023 Summer Internship Program.
We are energized by connecting with students, and our internship program allows our firm to grow and evolve even as it enhances academic studies and prepares students for professional practice. This year we are interested in exploring urban ecology OR the culture-building power of landscape, both incredibly broad umbrellas. We welcome working with the selected intern to refine the topic to a specific area of focus that they are enthusiastic about. Potential areas of focus might be:
- Strengthening firm practice around ASLA’s Climate Action Plan
- Recentering cities on shorelines (a site-specific study building from a Berger project)
- Wildcard: YOUR idea… we welcome fresh perspective!
The intern, with support from office staff, will develop a workflow for the summer and establish applicability of the topic to our work at a range of project scales. Applicants need not be experts in any of the subjects; learning and building expertise is the goal! The work will rely on research and experimentation with our in-house and outside resources to build pioneering thought.
We target about 60% of internship time on the above-mentioned research with the remaining time dedicated to practicum. The practicum is designed to provide hands-on project experience in a collaborative team environment and will likely involve researching applicable projects and visiting local examples, preparation of graphics, 3D modeling, and design of a range of landscape elements.
Internship Deliverable: The intern is expected to complete both a physical deliverable (book or other) and accompanying presentation for speaking and sharing the pioneering thought developed through their work. Applicants are encouraged to show their ability to be self-starters to move a project forward and produce a deliverable by the internships’ end.

APPLICATION SPECIFICATIONS:
The paid internship is open to students of landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, and associated fields. The program will run six to eight weeks, approximately 35-40 hours per week and is an in-office program (not virtual). Applicants should demonstrate passion for the profession and research and developing new thoughts. Excellence in graphic design, informational graphics, and written communication to realize a deliverable is highly valued and 3D modeling, rendering, and digital fabrication is a plus.
