Functional Landscapes

Assessing Elements of Seattle Green Factor

The research component of this report focused on Seattle’s Green Factor, the first of its kind in the US to build the city’s green infrastructure through development regulation.

Our research sought out innovative sustainable strategies that blurred the line between aesthetic and functioning landscapes. We chose to focus on Seattle’s Green Factor as a newly established, yet still developing, framework for assessing landscapes serving multiple purposes. The first of its kind in the US, Seattle’s Green Factor provides an innovative approach to building the city’s green infrastructure through development regulation. Green Factor allows new projects a higher degree of flexibility while increasing the ecological function and aesthetic qualities of the landscape.
