Western Washington University Kaiser Borsari Hall

Bellingham, WA

Kaiser Borsari Hall is set to become one of the first Zero Energy and Zero Carbon ILFI-certified STEM facilities in the U.S., setting a new standard for the WWU campus. This new building connects to the existing Communications Facility and includes labs and classroom space dedicated to electrical engineering and computer science. The mass timber building is designed to surpass LEED Standards for energy.

Site development includes a new entry plaza to the south and a new courtyard overlooking the mature landscape between the Communications Facility and connecting circulation. Plantings are native and adapted species to provide habitat value and reduce irrigation requirements. Stormwater is managed onsite with planting areas on the south side of the building being utilized as bio-retention planters.
