Washington State University Plant Sciences Building
Pullman, WA
Serving as the social and collaborative hub for the Plant Sciences Building and Research and Education Complex identified in the WSU master plan, the entry courtyard opens to the building’s forecourt and breezeway with new connections to Stadium Way, the main thoroughfare through campus. Custom-built seating stones form casual and fun spaces for gathering. A low stone curb wall defines the edges of the gathering areas, accentuating the geometric forms of the landscape.
The design also includes a primary circulation route from the Stadium Way sidewalk and crosswalk connecting westward through the campus, while a secondary circulation route winds through a series of Palouse-inspired paved gathering “fingers” that are interwoven with beautiful rolling grass berms, providing a framework for small gatherings as well as open paved areas for game day tailgating.
